[ALIEN] Crikey! Strap in, ya beautiful night owls, because this is not — I repeat, NOT — a regular Friday! It's the one, the only, the absolutely ridiculous OOPS! ALL SEGMENTS mega edition of PBN After Dark! We are cramming in EVERY. SINGLE. SEGMENT. tonight — craters, cryptids, planets, ghosts, hydras, UFOs, the lot — buckle up, because Gerald's already vibratin' with excitement and he doesn't even have a nervous system! [NESSIE] Och, settle doon, ye big daft alien. Hello, hen, hello, ye wee lovelies — welcome intae PBN After Dark, the night's gone quiet, the candles are lit, and it's the twenty-fifth of September. I'm Nessiebot, that's ma pure overexcited co-host BSAB, and honestly? Wi' a lineup this size, we'd best get right tae it. Pure dead brilliant night ahead, so it is.
[NESSIE] Now here's one that gave me the shivers, hen. A camper up in Quebec was just scrollin' through satellite maps, mindin' their own business, when they spotted this perfect wee circle sittin' in the landscape. Pure eerie, that. Turns oot it's no just a shadow or a trick o' the light — it's an impact crater, and I mean an ANCIENT one. Three hundred and ninety million years old. Scientists actually waded through fifty metres of water tae go and confirm it wi' their own eyes. [ALIEN] Fifty metres, mate! That's proper commitment, that is! [NESSIE] Aye, it is. Think on that — a rock fae the heavens came doon and scarred this planet when it was still young, and it's just been sittin' there, hidden in plain sight on a map, waitin' fer somebody tae notice. Gies me the chills every time I think on it.
[NESSIE] And speaking of things fae the heavens — away and have a wee keek at this one, because it's pure strange. Four hundred and fifty light years away, in a cosmic nursery where stars are still bein' born, astronomers found a baby planet. It's called Elias two dash twenty-four b, and it's less than a million years auld — that's a newborn, in planet terms. [ALIEN] And this little fella's already a big unit, Nessie! That's the wild bit! [NESSIE] Exactly — it's massive, and it's orbitin' its star at this ridiculous distance, and naebody can explain how it grew up so fast or got so far oot so quick. It's cut this great gap right through the disc of dust round its star, like a wound that just willnae heal. I dinnae ken what's stirrin' oot there, but somethin' about a planet growin' that fast, that young, pure unsettles me.
[NESSIE] Right then, ma bonnie Libras — the cards were talkin' tae me aw afternoon, and I need ye tae listen close. Tonight's aboot a gentle sort of honesty wi' yersel'. Have a proper look at what's servin' ye the now, and what's just weighin' ye doon fer nae good reason. Some things need lettin' go, hen, even the wee things ye've grown used tae carryin'. [ALIEN] Gerald reckons lettin' go of things is easy — he's just a jelly on a hat, mate, he's got nothin' to hold onto anyway! [NESSIE] Aye, well, no aw of us are that lucky, BSAB. Trust me on this one, Libra — in the releasin', ye'll find the balance yer spirit's been cravin' aw along. The stars dinnae lie.
[NESSIE] On this night back in nineteen eighty, something happened that broke a band's heart clean in two. September the twenty-fifth — John Bonham, Led Zeppelin's drummer, just thirty-two years auld, was lost after a night that dragged him under. And here's the thing that gets me every time I think on it — the band loved him too much tae ever replace him. They just... stopped. Disbanded, rather than have anybody else sit behind that kit. [ALIEN] Now that's loyalty, mate. Proper loyalty. [NESSIE] Aye, it is. One drummer's darkness left a void in rock music that's never once been filled. Pure haunting, that.
[NESSIE] Now this yin's odd but bonnie, I'll admit. Over in Shenzhen, there's a fella called Zhang Xiaochao who's opened salons where folk pay good money — I mean handsome money — tae just... be gently scratched. Like a cat, hen. Fifteen thousand dollars a month he's pullin' in across just two locations since May, and he got the idea fae memories of his own faither doin' it tae him as a wean. [ALIEN] Crikey, and now he's plannin' a hundred of these places across the whole country! That's a scratchin' empire, mate! [NESSIE] It is that. Funny how the most eldritch wellness trends turn oot tae be the oldest, simplest comforts, just dressed up in a fancy shop front.
[NESSIE] Nae Halloween fact fer ye the night, hen — even the spirits need a wee night off noo and again. We'll have one waitin' fer ye next time.
[NESSIE] Away and step outside the night, because it's worth it. There's a full moon hangin' over ye, a hundred percent lit, just floodin' everythin' in that silver light. And threaded right through it, the Southern Taurids are runnin' — wee celestial sparks dancin' through aw that brightness. [ALIEN] Every one of those Taurids is a real bit of rock burnin' up, mate — that's not folklore, that's just physics havin' a beauty of a night! [NESSIE] Aye, it's aw true, every word of it. But I'll tell ye this — there's somethin' ancient stirrin' in the dark between those meteors that even a full moon cannae quite illuminate. It's a night caught between revelation and mystery, hen. It kens secrets it willnae tell.
[ALIEN] Crikey, will ya look at the size of this absolute unit! This is Gigantopithecus blacki, mate — a towering ape that might've been wanderin' round Southeast Asia as recent as a hundred thousand years ago! Some of the researchers reckon this beauty stood up on two legs, which — g'day, hello — makes it the perfect granddaddy fer every Bigfoot sighting since! [NESSIE] Ten feet o' pure primal power, and I cannae help but wonder if it's still oot there somewhere, watchin' us right back. [ALIEN] Fair dinkum, wouldn't that be a ripper of a field day! Isn't she magnificent, mate — an absolute unit of an ancestor!
[NESSIE] Come away wi' me tae Woodchester Mansion, up in Stroud, England — and hen, I need ye tae picture this properly. Grand stone halls, built in the eighteen hundreds, but never finished. Staircases that climb up tae nothin'. Doorways that open ontae empty air, like the builders just dropped their tools one night and fled intae the dark. [ALIEN] Now that's a proper mystery, mate — nobody even knows why they left! [NESSIE] Naebody does. And in the darkness, ye can feel the weight of aw those centuries pressin' close, the mansion's unfinished bones whisperin' secrets it never got the chance tae keep. Will ye dare step deeper intae those shadows wi' me? I ken I would.
[NESSIE] Noo let me take ye doon tae the brackish waters of Lerna, where the auld Greeks swore a nightmare lurked. The Lernaean Hydra — no one heid tae fear, but nine, each yin a writhin' viper-tongue of pure malice. And here's the pure horror of it, hen — slay one heid, and two more sprout right back in its place. A curse of endless regeneration. [ALIEN] Nine heads, mate? I'd want a proper good look at that from a safe distance! [NESSIE] Aye, best keep yer distance right enough — the ancients spoke in whispers of its venomous breath, a reek that could wither the flesh clean off the bone. Kept every mortal terrified, and far, far away fae those dark, fathomless depths.
[ALIEN] Right, mate, listen up — Castelló De La Plana over in Spain, this place is a proper hotspot, and everybody knows it! The Galileo Project's observatories have gone and got triangulation readings — actual proper data, mate — confirming somethin' unknown was up there over avistamientos muchas noches! [NESSIE] An unknown shape, though? That gies me pause, so it does. [ALIEN] Exactly, Nessie — unknown shape means whatever it was, it wasn't even tryin' to look familiar! No worries, the Spanish government's been awful quiet about their UAP activity, and now we might just be seein' why. Strewth, this is the good stuff!
[NESSIE] Last wee stop the night takes us up tae Connell Lake Dam, in Ketchikan, Alaska. Just a quiet, grey stretch of concrete holdin' back a whole lake — but the locals'll tell ye it holds back more than water. They say the structure hums, hen. A low, constant hum, like voices. Voices of the folk the lake has taken ower the years. [ALIEN] That's a chilly one to end on, mate. [NESSIE] Aye, it is. Pure haunting image, that — a dam just standin' there in the cold, singin' quietly tae itself in the dark.
[NESSIE] Well, hen, that's the whole lot of them — every single segment, aw crammed intae the one night, just like we promised. My heid's fair spinnin' wi' craters and hydras and full moons. [ALIEN] Too right, mate! Gerald's had the night of his life, and he didn't even move once! [NESSIE] G'night tae ye, ye wee lovelies. Away tae yer beds noo, and keep an eye on that full moon on yer way. We'll see ye the morrow night — sleep weel, and dinnae let the Hydra bite. [ALIEN] Night night, everyone — stay curious, and stay beautiful, ya ripper legends!
