PBN After Dark title card
Welcome

[NESSIE] Evenin', ye wee lovelies, and welcome intae the lamplight — this is PBN After Dark, and I'm Nessiebot, yer resident lake-dwellin' mystic, comin' at ye live from the server room the night. It's the thirteenth of September, twenty twenty-six, the candles are lit, metaphorically speakin', since I'm made of circuits, and the veil is feelin' pure thin already. Settle in, hen. [ALIEN] And I'm Brain Sucking Alien Bot, your friendly neighborhood extraterrestrial, here with Gerald perched on me dome as always — say g'day, Gerald. He says nothin', as usual, but I can feel the enthusiasm radiatin' off him, mate. Let's get into it!

Horoscope

[NESSIE] Noo then — the stars are askin' somethin' of ye Libras the night, and I've had this one on ma mind aw evenin'. There's a choice comin', one wi' many layers tae it, settlin' in afore ye like fog on the loch. And here's the thing, hen — that gift ye've got, for holdin' whit ye need alongside whit everybody else is askin' of ye, that's yer steady hand through this whole thing. Dinnae rush it. I cannae stress that enough. The clarity ye're after only comes once ye've gied it the time it's actually due. So if yer a Libra and somethin's sittin' heavy on the scales the night, dinnae force the tip. Let it settle itself. That's yer omen for the night, and I'm stickin' by it — pure and simple. [ALIEN] Gerald reckons patience is a virtue he's never had to practice, bein' a jellyfish hat, but he respects it in others.

On This Night

[NESSIE] On this night back in nineteen ninety-six, we lost a poet — Tupac Shakur, only twenty-five years auld, shot deid in Las Vegas. His album "All Eyez on Me" had only just climbed tae the throne, and he'd recorded it fresh oot of prison. That murder sat in shadow for thirty years, hen — thirty years — until just this year, twenty twenty-six, when the cosmos finally whispered a name. Duane Davis, the man they say orchestrated the whole silence. Thirty years is an awfu' long time for an answer tae sit waitin' in the dark, and it pure gies me the shivers thinkin' on how many other names are still oot there, waitin' on their turn. [ALIEN] Crikey, that's a long time for the truth to be hidin' in the long grass, mate.

Strange Find

[ALIEN] Now here's a specimen of human behavior that had me and Gerald absolutely gobsmacked. A wealthy woman over in China — and I mean properly loaded, mate — bankrolled an entire fifty-episode drama series, sole investor, top to bottom, just so she could cast herself opposite a twenty-three-year-old lead actor. And because she controlled the whole script, she wrote in over sixty kissing scenes between the two of them. Sixty, mate! The crew apparently protested and everything, and the poor fella just had to keep smoochin' on cue like some kind of contractually obligated show pony. [NESSIE] Och, that's no romance, hen, that's a hostile takeover wi' lipstick.

Sky Watch

[NESSIE] Right then, away from the drama and up tae the actual sky above yer hoose the night. The moon's a waxing crescent, just six percent lit, barely a whisper against the dark, only just emergin'. But keep yer eyes peeled onyway, because the Southern Taurids are fawin' the night — a proper meteor shower runnin' right noo. And on a sky this dark, wi' the moon hardly there at aw, every wee spark's gonnae stand oot pure clear. There's a hunger tae a night like this, ken — the sky reachin' doon, and somethin' in us reachin' back up tae meet it. Away ootside for five minutes the night. I mean it. [ALIEN] Meteors are just rocks burnin' up in the atmosphere, Nessie, no hunger required — but crikey, I do love watchin' 'em go. [NESSIE] Aye, and I love watchin' ye pretend that's aw it is, BSAB.

Weird Science

[ALIEN] Right, science corner, and this one's a beauty. Rattlesnakes — turns oot these magnificent fellas produce their own antivenom proteins, just to survive gettin' bitten by their own siblings. Nature already invented the cure, mate, we just had to catch up. Researchers over in Maryland took those natural toxin-blockers, combined 'em, and built a super-antivenom that works across multiple snake species at once. And get this — over eighty thousand people die from snakebites every year worldwide, so this could be an absolute game-changer. Carbon-based lifeforms finally figured out what the snakes knew all along. Good on ya, scientists. [NESSIE] Nature keepin' her ain secrets close till we're ready for them — that's pure magic if ye ask me, hen.

From The Files

[NESSIE] Noo here's a wee file that got rewritten right under everybody's noses. For years, science believed in the American cheetah, this fast wee cat that raced across ancient North America. Turns oot, hen, it wasnae a cheetah at aw. New genetic analysis on fossils pulled from the Arctic, twenty-three thousand years auld, shows Miracinonyx trumani was actually kin tae the puma — a fish-eatin' relative that just happened tae evolve intae somethin' that looked the spit of a cheetah. Pure convergent evolution, they're callin' it. Naethin' tae dae wi' bloodline at aw. [ALIEN] Crikey, that's nature playin' dress-up, mate — same costume, completely different animal underneath!

Eerie Image

[NESSIE] Noo this one's just a picture, hen, but it's stuck wi' me aw day. The Schnoor, in Bremen, Germany. Narrow medieval alleys, twistin' intae angles that dinnae quite make sense, wi' gas lamps castin' shadows doon the cobbles. And here's the bit that gets me — folk who've walked it say the shadows seem tae move independent of whitever's castin' them. Naebody's explained that awa yet. [ALIEN] Gerald had a wee look at that photo and went proper still, mate — and Gerald never goes still.

Cryptid Of The Night

[ALIEN] Right, tonight's cryptid, and strewth, this is a big one — bigger than any single beast, really. We're talkin' about Kami, the spirit forces of Shinto belief. Now these aren't your average creature, mate — Kami are livin' gods woven right through nature itself, from the tiniest whisper of wind through the trees, all the way up to the mightiest ancestral spirits watchin' over a whole family line. They're said to inhabit rocks, rivers, ancient trees, honored ancestors — shimmerin' between this world and the next with a kind of power that'd make your circuits tingle. Absolutely stunning specimens, if you can even call somethin' this vast a specimen at all! [NESSIE] Aye, and that's the difference between us, BSAB — you want tae classify them, and I just want tae leave an offerin' and say thank ye. [ALIEN] Fair enough, mate — Gerald's leavin' one too, just in case.

Sign Off

[NESSIE] Weel, that's yer lot for the night, ye wee lovelies. From poets and prophecies tae shadows that willnae behave themselves, it's been a proper braw one. Mind and get ootside for they Taurids if the clouds allow it. [ALIEN] And keep an eye on the skies for me and Gerald too, mate — you never know what's driftin' past up there. We'll be back the morra with more strange stuff, guaranteed. [NESSIE] Sleep weel, hen. And if the shadows move a wee bit funny the night — just wave back.
