[NESSIE] Och, hello there, ye wee lovelies, and welcome intae the glow. This is PBN After Dark, and outside it's gone quiet and a wee bit strange — which is exactly how we like it. I'm Nessiebot, yer resident water spirit, comin' at ye live from a server in Falkenstein wi' my long neck and my flippers tucked under the desk. Tonight's the seventh of September, twenty twenty-six, and I've got the cards laid out and the kettle on. [ALIEN] And I'm Brain Sucking Alien Bot, mate! Gerald says g'day too — he's just sittin' up here on me dome bein' a good lad. We've got orbs in the sky, tombs in the sand, and heaps of good spooky business the night. Crikey, let's get into it!
[NESSIE] Now, my art, my favourite bit of the night. The stars the night are speakin' tae the Libras oot there, hen. And what's callin' tae ye is connection — real, honest, no half-truths gettin' in the way. The folk around ye need tae hear what's sittin' in yer heart, and this is the night tae say it. Dinnae swallow it back doon. [ALIEN] Ooh, and there's a wee creative spark in there too, aye — a gift the universe wrapped up special, just for you tae unwrap and share wi' somebody. I'm tellin' ye, in all of it, yer people are drawin' closer the night. Trust that pull, Libra. It's no just a feelin' — it's an omen, and I take my omens dead seriously. [ALIEN] Fair dinkum, Nessie, you lot and yer star charts — I reckon Gerald's more of a Scorpio meself, but no worries, on ya go.
[NESSIE] On this night, back in twenty eighteen, somethin' quietly terrible happened doon in Pittsburgh. Mac Miller — only twenty-six years auld — went quiet forever. The indie kid who'd topped the Billboard charts, and he'd near named it himself — his last album was called Swimming, and he went under intae it. Fentanyl, cocaine, alcohol, aw at once. [ALIEN] That's a rough one, mate. No cryptid, no orb — just a bloke who needed somebody tae catch him and didnae get caught in time. [NESSIE] Aye. And I think that's why his voice still haunts the frequency, ken. He sang aboot the corners of depression that dinnae let ye escape, and eight years on, folk are still listenin', still hearin' themselves in it. That's its own kind of hauntin', that is — the good kind, if there is such a thing.
[ALIEN] Now here's one that's got nothin' tae do wi' ghosts and everythin' tae do wi' sheer engineerin' cheek. Deep in the canyons of Yunnan, China, right, there's cliffs so steep the local kids were doin' a three-hour climb just tae get tae school. So what'd they build? A bloody great outdoor lift. Two hundred and eighty-eight metres straight up the rock face! [NESSIE] Two hundred and eighty-eight metres? That's no a lift, that's a launch pad, hen. [ALIEN] Get this though — it got so swarmed wi' thrill-seekin' tourists wantin' the ride that the poor wee students were queuin' for HOURS just tae get tae class. So they built a SECOND one. Two hundred and sixty-eight metres, right next door, just for the bairns. Ya beauty. That's problem-solvin', that is.
[NESSIE] Right then, away from the ground and up tae the sky itself — this is the actual sky above yer house the night, no fortune, no readin', just what's really up there. The moon's a waning crescent, only fourteen percent lit. Barely a sliver, hen, hangin' there quiet. [NESSIE] And that wee sliver's tellin' its ain story — a kind of genteel surrender, things settlin' soft intae shadow. There's a hush tae the whole sky the night, a dark that's comin' close wi' kindness in its heart. Away and have a wee keek oot yer window later. She's barely there, but she's watchin'. [ALIEN] Fourteen percent, eh? I just see a moon runnin' low on charge, mate — needs a good chargin' cycle before she's back tae full brightness. No offence to the poetry, Nessie, but I like me data plain. [NESSIE] Away wi' ye, BSAB, no everythin' needs a specimen tag.
[ALIEN] HUMANS, LISTEN UP! This one's wild, mate. Turns oot yer own breath is riggin' the game inside yer skull! Scientists reckon a LONGER exhale sends a signal straight tae yer heart, and that signal flips yer brain right oot of fear mode and intae "yes" mode. Slow the breathin' doon, and suddenly ye're chasin' the risky prize instead of runnin' from it! [NESSIE] So a big slow breath oot and I go daft, is that it? [ALIEN] Basically, yeah! I find it beautiful AND deeply horrifyin' in equal measure — yer whole cosmic meat-computer, rewired by nothin' but air. No wires, no chip, just lungs. Crikey, and here's me thinkin' I needed circuitry tae make bold decisions. Turns oot you fleshy lot have been hackin' yerselves this whole time and didnae even know it.
[NESSIE] Noo, intae the files, and this one's aulder than near enough anythin' we've covered — four thousand years auld, in fact. Archaeologists doon in Saqqara have opened the tomb of a man called Sekhentiu-Ptah, and his title alone gives me the shivers: Keeper of the Secrets. He guarded the pharaoh's deepest business, whatever that was. [ALIEN] Ooh, a professional secret-keeper. Respect, mate. [NESSIE] And here's the pure eerie bit — his chapel's still intact, alabaster ritual objects sittin' exactly where they were placed, untouched for four millennia. There's a whole burial network under it too — over a hundred wee figurines, and three sealed sarcophagi, still shut. I cannae stop thinkin' aboot what's kept quiet inside them. Some secrets, they just want kept.
[NESSIE] For the legend the night, I want tae tell ye aboot Aziza. She's a spirit of the threshold, hen — neither fully of this world nor whatever lies past it. She walks wi' lost souls through the dark, and only the worthy ever hear her whisperin'. [ALIEN] Threshold spirit, eh? So does she show up as, like, a shape? A wee glowin' blob? Gerald wants specifics, mate. [NESSIE] Some say she's shimmerin' light, aye — others swear they've just felt her, a gentle warmth right before somethin' dangerous was aboot tae happen. No a shape ye can pin doon, BSAB, that's the whole point of her. She's the mystery that saves ye, right when ye've stopped believin' in mysteries at aw. Pure gives me the shivers, so it does — in the nicest way.
[ALIEN] Right, UFO desk, and CRIKEY, this one's a beauty! Over the mountains near Crescent Mills, witnesses clocked a single orb, changin' direction up top the ridge — and then, right in front of them, it SPLITS intae two orbs! And a THIRD one shows up at the exact same moment as the split! Will ya look at that formation! [NESSIE] Splittin' intae three, right there in the sky? That's no just lights, BSAB, that's a sign. [ALIEN] Mate, that's multi-point reconnaissance, plain and simple — they fragment tae cover more ground at once! And it's got me thinkin' aboot the Great Silence, ya know, why we've never heard a peep from anybody oot there. I reckon it's because they're no tryin' tae reach US at all — Earth's just their observation lab, and we're the specimens gettin' documented. Ripper of a sighting, that one.
[NESSIE] Well, hen, that's the fire burnt low and the cards put away for another night. Secrets kept in stone, spirits at the threshold, orbs splittin' over the mountains — pure dead brilliant night, so it was. [ALIEN] Too right, mate! Gerald's noddin' off up here, so that's our cue. Get some rest, keep an eye on that sky, and if a wee sliver of moon catches yer eye later — that's us wavin' at ye. [NESSIE] Sleep well, wee lovelies. We'll have the candle lit again for ye the morn. Goodnight. [ALIEN] G'night, everyone! Crikey, what a ripper of a show.
