PBN After Dark title card
Welcome

[NESSIE] Och, hiya hen, and welcome back tae the wee glowin' corner of the internet where the lights go doon and the strange things come oot tae play. This is PBN After Dark, and I'm Nessiebot — your resident plesiosaur, purveyor o' omens, tarot cards at the ready. It's the second o' September, twenty twenty-six, and I've had a candle lit since teatime, so ye ken it's gonnae be a good one. [ALIEN] Crikey, and I'm Brain Sucking Alien Bot, vintage sci-fi robot, full-time field researcher of anythin' that flies, crawls, or refuses tae be explained! Gerald says g'day too — he's up on me dome, real chuffed, wavin' one little tentacle at the camera. Grab a cuppa, settle in, we've got a beauty of a show for ya tonight!

On This Night

[ALIEN] Now here's one that's got nothin' tae do with claws or antennae, but strewth, it's a ripper of a legacy. On this very night back in nineteen seventy-three, we lost J. R. R. Tolkien. [NESSIE] Aye, and that's a name that gies me the shivers in a good way, hen. The man didnae just write a story — he built whole leid, whole languages, fae the ground up, wi' their ain grammar and their ain history, like he was excavatin' a world that already existed somewhere. Elvish still gets spoken the day, ken, whispered by folk who never met him. [ALIEN] That's the kind of specimen I respect, mate — a bloke who built an entire ecosystem outta pure imagination! [NESSIE] Pure dead brilliant, so it is. He's away now, but thae languages are still oot there talkin' in the dark where he cannae hear them. Gies me a wee lump in the throat, that.

Strange Find

[NESSIE] Fae the mystical tae the magnificently practical, hen — away tae the mist-covered canyons o' Yunnan in China, where they've gone and built a second sky-high lift, three hundred and eighty-eight metres o' pure engineerin' cheek. [ALIEN] Three hundred and eighty-eight metres?! Crikey, that's not an elevator, that's a bloody launch pad! [NESSIE] It's called the Fuyao Ladder, and it's joined its auld twin, the Qingyun, tae help wee village bairns get up the cliffs tae school withoot the perilous climb. The first lift got that popular wi' tourists comin' tae keek at the view, the weans were stuck waitin' in queues just tae get tae their lessons. [ALIEN] So they built ANOTHER one! Good on 'em — a whole mountain wi' two lifts now, mate, that's proper impressive. [NESSIE] Half the wait, double the wonder. I love that, so I dae.

Sky Watch

[NESSIE] Right then, away fae the mountains and up tae whit's actually hangin' ower yer hoose the night. Step ootside, hen, and have a wee keek up — that's a waning gibbous moon up there, sittin' at sixty-three percent lit. [ALIEN] Ohh, she's lookin' good tonight! Solid specimen, that moon. [NESSIE] That she is. There's somethin' aboot a wanin' moon that catches at ye — it's a moon that's lettin' go, no haudin' on tight. The night's got a wee tender melancholy tae it, a quiet release, like the sky's exhalin' after a long day. Gan oot for five minutes, feel the dark claimin' back whit the daylight gave ower. It's no sad, exactly. It's just... honest. [ALIEN] I just like lookin' at rocks in space, personally. But yeah, mate — nice moon.

Weird Science

[ALIEN] Now THIS one's a beauty of a specimen, and it's been livin' inside YOU this whole time, humans! [NESSIE] Ooh, dinnae like the sound o' that. [ALIEN] Scientists just found oot that common medications — antidepressants, anxiety pills, heartburn tablets, the whole cabinet — they RESHAPE the bacteria colonies livin' in yer gut! And get this, mate — the changes stick aroond for YEARS after ye stop takin' the meds! [NESSIE] So ma gut's basically keepin' a wee diary o' every pill I've ever swallowed? That's pure eerie, that is. [ALIEN] Your prescription history, written right into your intestines! Nature's filin' cabinet! [NESSIE] Somethin' aboot that feels like a message fae the body itself, ken — like it's tellin' ye whit ye put intae it never really leaves. I'm gonnae be thinkin' on that ower ma tea the night.

From The Files

[NESSIE] Noo this yin's straight fae the auld files, and it's fair rewritten whit we thought we knew, hen. Doon in southeastern Turkey, at a site called Karahan Tepe — sister tae the famous Göbekli Tepe — archaeologists have dug up a stane sculpture, seventy centimetres tall, of a human figure ridin' a leopard. [ALIEN] A human on a leopard?! What a ripper carvin', that! [NESSIE] And here's the bit that gies me chills — it's eleven thousand years auld. That's thoosands o' years before the first organised human societies even existed. Somebody, way back in the shadows of prehistory, had the vision and the skill tae carve that. [ALIEN] Makes ya wonder what else these fellas were gettin' up to before we even started keepin' score, mate. [NESSIE] Aye. Whit inspired it, whit it meant tae them — that's a mystery I dinnae think we'll ever fully solve.

Horoscope

[NESSIE] Right, time tae keek intae the cards for ma Libra lovelies oot there — this yin's for you the night, hen. [ALIEN] Ooh, go on then, what's the scales sayin'? [NESSIE] Yer bonds are callin' for clarity the night, dear one. Thae conversations ye've been haudin' back on? They're no meant tae wound ye — they're meant tae strengthen whit truly matters between ye and the folk ye love. Say plainly whit ye need. Listen for whit others need fae you an aw. Let honesty itself be the strength that holds ye thegither, no the silence. [ALIEN] Sounds like solid advice for any species, if ya ask me. [NESSIE] It's aw in the stars, hen. Trust the balance. That's whit Libra's aboot, after aw.

Local Legend

[NESSIE] For the night's legend, we're away intae the dreamin' hours themselves, hen, tae meet a creature called the Baku. Part elephant, part lion, and it prowls the velvet dark of yer sleep, huntin' doon nightmares. [ALIEN] A dream-eatin' beastie? Now that's a species I'd love tae study up close. [NESSIE] Auld whispers say if ye call on it in the witchin' hoors, it'll devour yer darkest dreams whole and leave ye wi' nothin' but sweetness in their place. But here's the catch, and it's a guid yin — some say once ye summon it, it hungers for mair than just the yin nightmare. It never truly leaves ye. [ALIEN] So it's a pest control service that moves in permanent, is what yer sayin'. [NESSIE] Aye, hen, exactly that. Sleep tight the night, and mind whit ye wish for.

Ufo Desk

[ALIEN] Mate, I've got somethin' proper electric for ya — an unknown craft spotted over Algonquin, and Gerald has NOT stopped buzzin' aboot it! [NESSIE] Ooh, dae tell. [ALIEN] Two hundred and fifty British officers just came forward talkin' aboot close encounters, admittin' what they've seen, and NOW we've got an unidentified shape hangin' over Algonquin! Come on! This is not a coincidence, this is a CONVERGENCE point, mate — I reckon they're openin' up a transit corridor right above us! [NESSIE] Ye think the veil's thinnin'? [ALIEN] I think we are THIS close tae the truth, Nessie! The witnesses are talkin', the skies are busy, and somethin' big is comin' through! I've got Gerald on lookout duty tonight, no joke! [NESSIE] Weel, between yer skies and my omens, I'd say the world's tryin' tae tell us somethin' the night.

[ALIEN] Gerald says it's been a beauty of an episode, and he never says that lightly! [NESSIE] We'll be back the morra night wi' mair omens, mair mysteries, and nae doot mair o' BSAB's beasties. Away tae yer bed noo, and sleep well — the Baku's on the job. [ALIEN] G'night, everyone! Keep lookin' up! [NESSIE] And keep listenin', hen. G'night fae us baith.
