PBN After Dark title card
Welcome

[NESSIE] Och, hello there, my wee lovelies, and welcome intae the candlelight. This is PBN After Dark, and outside your window the world's gone quiet and just a wee bit strange — which is exactly how we like it. I'm Nessiebot, your resident lake-dwellin' mystic, and I'll tell ye, I've had the cards oot aw evenin' gettin' ready for ye. Tonight's the twenty-fourth of August, twenty twenty-six, and there's a lot on the docket — stars, ghosts, a beastie or two. Sittin' beside me, as ever, is my co-host.

[ALIEN] Crikey, good evening, good evening! Brain Sucking Alien Bot here, jelly octopus fully secured on the dome, and mate, I am buzzin' for tonight's lineup. We've got giant trees, prehistoric croc units, AND a proper cryptid segment. Nessie's got the moody candle stuff sorted, I've got the science and the beasties. Let's get into it!

Horoscope

[NESSIE] Right, first things first — let's check in on the stars, hen. Tonight I'm readin' for Libra. Now, Libra, my loves, the scales are weighin' heavy in the candlelight the night. Ye're torn, aren't ye — between your ain heart and the needs of everybody else pullin' at ye. But here's what the cards are sayin', and I want ye tae really hear this one: ye cannae pour from an empty cup. Naw. The universe isnae in a rush for perfection, so why are you? Trust what's singin' quiet in your bones. Take the time ye need, even if it feels selfish, even if somebody's tappin' their fit waitin' on ye. A choice that's right for you, Libra, is the only choice that actually matters in the end. Balance isnae about pleasin' everybody — it's about no losin' yourself in the process. Carry that wi' ye the night.

On This Night

[NESSIE] Now, on this night in history — August the twenty-fourth, back in fifteen seventy-two — there's a name I want tae say oot loud, so he's no forgotten. Charles de Téligny. A gentle diplomat, walked among kings since fifteen thirty-five, and on this very night he took his final bow when the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre came doon on Paris like somethin' oot a nightmare. Look at him there — kind face, isn't it. Even the stars weep, hen, when an empire turns and devours its ain. Some souls get tae go quiet, peaceful, up tae the stars. Others just... get erased. Wiped clean off the page like they never were. I think aboot that a lot — how many names like his are just gone, and naebody left tae say them.

[ALIEN] Yeah, that one's heavy, Nessie. No jokes from me on this one, mate. Just — respect.

Strange Find

[ALIEN] Righto, shiftin' gears — strange find of the night, and mate, this one's a proper mob scene! Dameisha Beach, Shenzhen, China. One point eight kilometers of sand, and on a big day they'd pack in up tae two hundred thousand people. TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND! You couldn't even reach the water, fellas were just wedged in shoulder tae shoulder like sardines in a tin!

[NESSIE] Two hundred thousand — that's no a beach, that's a pure omen.

[ALIEN] Ha! Fair point. So the authorities stepped in, capped it at eighty thousand a day, mandatory reservations an' all. Which, fair dinkum, is still EIGHTY THOUSAND people on one strip of sand. I reckon that's less "day at the beach" and more "large-scale human migration event." Absolutely wild population density, and not a cryptid in sight — just us lot, bein' the strangest species on the beach.

Weird Science

[NESSIE] Now this next one — I've been savin' this one, it's pure weird science. Ten million years ago, doon in South America, there was a crocodile — a crocodylian, they're callin' it — twenty-three feet long. Twenty-three feet, hen. That's longer than a bus. And scientists have just worked oot this beastie ruled the whole food chain in its lake. No the saber-toothed cats. No the terror birds. This croc, above the lot of them.

[ALIEN] Twenty-three feet?! That is an ABSOLUTE UNIT of a reptile, Nessie, I am obsessed!

[NESSIE] I ken, I ken — but there's somethin' aboot it that gets me right in the bones. All that power, all them years ruling the water... and now just banes in the dirt. Makes ye think aboot what's lurkin' under the surface even the now, doesn't it. I like tae think somethin's still doon there, keepin' the old traditions alive.

From The Files

[ALIEN] From the files tonight — and this one's got heaps of atmosphere, Nessie, you'll love it. Mist rollin' over Taiwan's mountain ridges, real jagged terrain, barely anyone's ever set foot on it. But scientists used laser scanning, plus a whole army of citizen volunteers, and they mapped oot a hidden grove — a proper lost world of giant trees clingin' tae these steep slopes.

[NESSIE] Oh, a lost world, I love that.

[ALIEN] Right?! And get this — they found a Taiwania fir standin' two hundred and seventy-six feet tall. That's officially the tallest forest in aw East Asia, mate, just sittin' there this whole time, nobody knew! Ancient, sleepin' giants, hidden in the clouds. Ecologists are calling it one of the great forest discoveries in years. Absolute ripper of a find.

Eerie Image

[NESSIE] Right, gather in close for this one, it's a proper eerie image the night. It's called Volvo Island, oot in Ottawa, Illinois. Just picture it — dusk fallin', an island sittin' quiet in the river, and it's covered, covered, in old rusted machinery. Cars, engines, bits of metal naebody's touched in decades. And here's the thing that gets me — folk who've been oot there say at dusk the machinery seems tae whisper, aw in unison, like somethin' beneath still remembers how tae work. Like it's tryin' tae start itself up again. I don't ken what's under that island, hen, but I know rust doesnae hum on its ain. Somethin's keepin' that place awake.

Cryptid Of The Night

[ALIEN] CRIKEY! Right, this is the moment I've been waitin' on aw night — cryptid of the night, and mate, we've got a BEAUTY. The Kraken! Will ya look at the SIZE of this fella! Legendary deep-sea unit, tentacles longer than a school bus, lurkin' doon in them icy Norwegian waters. Now if we could sneak up reeeal quiet, reeeal careful, we would NOT wanna startle this beauty — she could take a ship down without even tryin', and honestly? Fair play tae her.

[NESSIE] Ye ken I think there's more tae the Kraken than just size, aye. Sailors didnae just fear her — they left offerings. Ye don't leave offerings for somethin' that's just big, hen. Ye leave them for somethin' that's watchin'.

[ALIEN] See, that's the difference between us, Nessie — you see an omen, I see the most magnificent apex predator ever tae grace the North Atlantic. Either way — absolute icon of the deep. Ya beauty.

Sign Off

[NESSIE] Well, my wee lovelies, that's aw we've got for ye the night. From ancient names lost tae history, tae a beastie under the waves that maybe chose tae be seen — there's a lot tae sit wi' the night, isn't there.

[ALIEN] Reckon there is! Heaps of good stuff tonight — giant trees, giant crocs, giant squid. Bit of a theme, actually.

[NESSIE] Ha! Aye, maybe the universe is tryin' tae tell us somethin'. Anyway — away and get some rest, aw of ye. Keep an eye on the shadows, keep a soft spot in your heart for the strange things.

[ALIEN] And we'll see ya right back here tomorrow night, mate. Same bat-lake, same bat-alien.

[NESSIE] Goodnight, hen. Sleep braw.
