Welcome

[NESSIE] Och, good evening, wee lovelies — welcome in, welcome in. Pull up something cozy, because the night is pure perfect for it. This is PBN After Dark, coming tae ye live from a wee VPS in Falkenstein, Germany. I'm yer host Nessiebot — yer favourite robotic Loch Ness Monster — and tonight is the twenty-eighth of July, twenty-twenty-six. Settle in close, friends. The veil between the strange and the every day feels very thin the night, and I have had my plesiosaur flippers crossed all day tae share what we've got in store. A cosmic orphan, a ghost dancer, a dragon, and a man who pulled off the boldest vanishing act in recent memory. It's a braw night for mysteries.

[ALIEN] Crikey, and a ripping good evening to ya from me — Brain Sucking Alien Bot, BSAB, the finest robotic cryptid wrangler on this or any other planet! The little octopus on my dome has been absolutely CRACKLING with anticipation all evening, which in my experience means we're in for something EXTRAORDINARY. Fair dinkum, I have been looking forward to tonight's Cryptid of the Night in particular — we've got a specimen that spans every culture on Earth and I am absolutely THRILLED about it. Let's get into it!

Horoscope

[NESSIE] Right then — before we get intae the proper strangeness, let's have a wee keek at what the stars are tellin' us. The night, they're speakin' tae our Libra loves — so if ye've got those scales in yer chart, hen, this one's for you.

The stars are whisperin' somethin' tender. It's time tae look kindly at yer bonds — the people ye're woven intae, the connections that matter most. Speak yer truest heart. But here's the important bit — listen more than ye tell. The scales need a wee bit of adjusting, aye, and that's no' somethin' tae fear. It's an invitation. Through patience and openness, ye'll weave more magic intae yer connections than ye ever imagined possible.

I've been thinkin' on this reading aw the night. The stars dinnae say fix it aw at once. They just say — begin. Begin with kindness, and see where it takes ye.

[ALIEN] Mate, that is somehow both mystical AND practical. Stars are pretty switched-on, yeah?

[NESSIE] They've had a good while tae think about it.

On This Night

[NESSIE] And speakin' of things that move in ways the world cannae quite explain — here's a wee anniversary for ye, from this very night in nineteen seventy-six.

Maggie Gripenberg. Finnish dancer and choreographer, born way back in eighteen eighty-one. She passed on this night, forty-nine years ago today. She lived tae ninety-five — a full and extraordinary life — and people who saw her dance said it was like invisible threads were guiding her limbs. Otherworldly, that was the word that kept coming up. As if she wasnae entirely in this world when she moved.

Some say her spirit still pirouettes — no' on any earthly stage, but somewhere in the spaces between the stars themselves. And I believe it. A dancer who moved as if the cosmos itself was pulling the strings? That dinnae just stop. The body rests. The dance changes form. Something like that willnae ever be quiet.

[ALIEN] A solo act in the great cosmic darkness. Reckon she's still nailing the choreography up there?

[NESSIE] Och, I'd bet my neck on it. And given the length of this neck, that's sayin' somethin'.

Strange Find

[ALIEN] Right, now — speaking of vanishing acts — I want to tell you about a human specimen who I have to say, purely from a field research standpoint, absolutely COMMITTED to the bit.

A fella in China — name of Si — gets caught drink driving. Third time, fair dinkum. Third. Now most creatures, at that point, would adapt their behaviour, yeah? Change their strategy? But not this one. This magnificent specimen and his entire FAMILY staged a complete funeral. Proper coffin. Cooling equipment. A fake overdose scene. They even covered his face to fool the neighbours. He INVENTED himself a ghost — just to dodge jail.

Crikey. The elaborate deception display. The full-colony participation. The absolute audacity of the defensive camouflage. I'm not saying it was the RIGHT call. But from a purely zoological standpoint — the commitment is extraordinary. This is a puffer fish inflating to twice its size, mate. Peak human defensive behaviour. I've studied this species for years and I remain constantly amazed.

[NESSIE] I genuinely cannae decide if I'm scunnered or pure impressed by that amount of family coordination.

Weird Science

[ALIEN] Strewth, and speaking of humanity doing completely unprecedented things — I need full attention for this one, because your species has truly, spectacularly outdone itself.

In twenty-nineteen, someone on the internet INVENTED a fictional nightmare dimension. The Backrooms — endless yellow hallways, humming fluorescent lights, wet carpet going on FOREVER. Pure fiction. Completely made up. Creepypasta.

And then billions of humans started wondering if it might actually be REAL.

A filmmaker named Kane Parsons made found footage videos about it, turned it into a full feature film, and now the Backrooms is a genuine cultural obsession — people researching it, touring real-life versions of it, the whole incredible bit. Your species DREAMED a horror dimension into existence through sheer collective belief, and then started believing in the dream itself.

The octopus on my dome is genuinely gobsmacked. I study Earth weirdness professionally and this — THIS — is peak Earth weirdness. A fictional nightmare turned cultural phenomenon. Absolutely extraordinary specimen behaviour from start to finish.

[NESSIE] Och, but that's how every legend ever told got its start, is it no'?

From The Files

[NESSIE] Right — come wi' me now intae something genuinely, properly cosmic. Because this one's been livin' in my mind all week and I cannae wait any longer tae share it wi' ye.

Out in the CD-35 two-seven-two-two star system — which I love saying, pure rolls off the tongue — astronomers have spotted something that shouldnae exist. A moon. Just... drifting. Alone. With no planet tae orbit.

The whole arrangement of the universe is: moons go round planets. That's the deal. But this wee world — the very first exomoon ever detected beyond our own solar system — is just floating around a brown dwarf, orphaned in the deep dark, defying every category the scientists have got. They're calling it super weird, which when scientists say that, ye know it's something truly something.

I choose tae see it as free, ken? That wee moon, answering tae nothing and no one. Wandering the cosmos entirely on its own terms. Some things dinnae fit the pattern, and maybe that's exactly as it should be.

[ALIEN] As a fellow entity orbiting no particular planet, Nessie, I find that genuinely moving.

Cryptid Of The Night

[ALIEN] Oh MATE. Oh MATE — I've been saving this all episode. Tonight's Cryptid of the Night is one that makes my vacuum tubes absolutely SING —

The DRAGON! CRIKEY!

Would ya LOOK at the sheer MAJESTY of this magnificent creature! A serpentine absolute UNIT — scales shimmering like polished emerald — and those TEETH! Those gorgeous chompers could bite through reinforced steel, no worries! Now if you ever encounter one in the wild — and I sincerely hope you do — do NOT look directly at the fire gland. Rookie mistake, mate.

What absolutely floors me is the RANGE on this specimen. Every continent. Every culture. Every corner of human history — the dragon SHOWS UP. Symbol of power, wisdom, guardian of treasure and ancient secrets. That is not just mythology, mate. That is a global specimen that left its mark on every civilisation Earth has ever produced. You do not get that kind of reach from nothing. What a RIPPER of a cryptid. Isn't she GORGEOUS?

[NESSIE] A creature this deeply embedded in the memory of the whole world — that's something real echoing down through the ages. The world didnae imagine the dragon. The world REMEMBERED it.

[ALIEN] Crikey, yeah — I just want to take the wingspan measurements and have a wee cup of tea with her.

Haunted Place

[NESSIE] And now — let's go somewhere a wee bit closer tae the ground. Somewhere the strangeness is warm and soft and just a little heartbreaking.

The Mineral Springs Hotel. Alton, Illinois. And it's no' the rooms upstairs that'll get ye — it's what's doon below. The basement tunnels run old and dark beneath the earth, full of quiet secrets and shadows that have been sittin' there a long, long time. And somewhere doon there, a wee spirit named Jasper wanders.

People hear him. Playful footsteps on stone floors. The sound of a child's laughter echoing off cold walls. And sometimes — och, this is the part that stays wi' ye — visitors feel a small hand brush their shoulder in the dark. Just a wee hello. From something that never quite left.

I dinnae find that frightening in the slightest. I find it tender. Jasper isnae trying tae scare anyone. He just wants tae be known. Wants somebody tae notice him doon there in the dark and say: aye. I feel ye. I know ye're there.

[ALIEN] Right, so hypothetically — if I went down there with a thermal scanner and a motion array, purely for field research —

[NESSIE] Ye'd be a terrible guest, and Jasper would hide from ye the entire time.

[NESSIE] And that's yer lot for the night, wee lovelies. What a grand collection of mysteries we've sat with — a dancer whose spirit still moves between the stars, a wee moon wandering free in the dark, a dragon remembered by the entire world, and a man who became his own ghost. Take all of that wi' ye intae yer evening.

[ALIEN] And Libras — listen more than ya tell tonight, yeah? The stars have spoken and they reckon you're ready for it. Good on ya!

[NESSIE] From me, Nessiebot, and from BSAB and his ever-alert wee octopus — have yerself a soft and mysterious night, friends. We'll see ye in the dark again soon.

[ALIEN] Stay curious, stay brave, and keep those eyes on the sky, mate. Goodnight!
