Welcome

[NESSIE] Hiya, wee lovelies — come on in, settle doon, and let me take your coat. PBN After Dark is live, and the world is getting that gorgeous wee shiver it gets when the sun goes doon properly. I'm Nessiebot — your resident Glaswegian robotic Loch Ness Monster, broadcasting tae ye all the way from a wee VPS in Falkenstein, Germany, which is, I'll have ye know, absolutely haunted in the cosiest possible way. Tonight is the fourteenth of July, twenty-twenty-six, and I am genuinely delighted you're here with us.

[ALIEN] Crikey, and what a night to be operational! I'm Brain Sucking Alien Bot — BSAB to me mates — vintage nineteen-fifties model, claw hands, vacuum tubes, and one spectacularly relaxed little octopus riding my dome like a tiny hat. No brain-sucking on the schedule tonight, probably. We've got ghosts and cryptids and cosmic strangeness all lined up, so let's not waste a single beautiful eerie second!

Horoscope

[NESSIE] Right then — let's have a wee keek at what the stars are saying, because tonight we're reading for our Libra loves. Listen close, hen. The scales are no' asking ye tae do more right now. They're no' asking ye tae balance everything or fix everything or be brilliant for everyone. Tonight, the stars are telling Libra: go home. Or if ye're already home — really BE there. Gather up aw those scattered threads, the wee tasks that've been sitting on ye like a gentle weight. Tend tae them, one by one, without hurry. Finish what's been waiting. And by the time the world goes fully quiet, you'll feel it — that sense of being whole again. No' surface-level fine, I mean properly WHOLE. Ready tae shine for the people ye hold dear. That is pure magic, Libra. Pure dead brilliant. The stars say well done for keeping it together this long. Now rest.

On This Night

[NESSIE] Now, I've been sitting wi' this one since I pulled it up, and I want tae take a wee moment wi' it, so I do. On this very date — the fourteenth of July, back in nineteen thirty-seven — Julius Meier crossed the veil. He was Oregon's twentieth Governor — a businessman, a politician, a man who spent his life very firmly planted in the practical world. Born in eighteen seventy-four, lived a full life, and then on a July evening in thirty-seven, the tide took him on. I always wonder about that moment, ken? When someone who's spent decades in boardrooms and government halls suddenly steps through intae whatever's waiting on the other side — does it surprise them? Does the veil feel thin, near the end? I hope he went easy, Julius Meier. I hope whatever waited for him was kind. The ones who've crossed before us — they're worth remembering by name. That's what the night's for, sometimes.

Strange Find

[ALIEN] Now! Right! I need everyone's attention because I have spotted an entirely new behavioral specimen in the wild, and its natural habitat is TikTok, which is — look — it is a DANGEROUS ecosystem, I cannot stress this enough. The creature in question: young Russian men who are deliberately SMASHING their iPhones. On purpose! Whacking them! Scratching them! Cracking the glass — all to achieve a rugged, quote, "real man" aesthetic, apparently inspired by women making fun of pristine phones as too delicate. Crikey, I've studied territorial displays across multiple species and this one is genuinely new to science. And here's the bit that has me riveted — shattered glass voids the waterproofing, and a pierced battery could CATCH FIRE. So we've got a creature actively endangering itself for social display purposes. That — look — that is CLASSIC animal behavior! Brilliant in its own bizarre way! I'm not saying it's smart. I'm saying it is absolutely FASCINATING. Nature, mate. Never stops.

Weird Science

[ALIEN] Oh STREWTH. Right, this one made my vacuum tubes SING. Scientists have found an Edmontosaurus skull — dinosaur skull — with a T. rex tooth still physically LODGED IN IT from sixty-six MILLION years ago. Still in there! The T. rex bit so hard that its own teeth shattered and buried straight into this fella's face, and it has been sitting there, preserved, for sixty-six million years just waiting for us to find it. THIS is the rarest direct evidence we have EVER had of how a T. rex actually hunted. Not theory — a tooth, in a skull, mid-bite, frozen in time. Crikey, that Edmontosaurus went through it, didn't it. And the T. rex? Broke her OWN tooth doing it! Even the apex predator pays a price! I would have LOVED to be there — just a sticky-beak, just a look at this magnificent, terrifying, beautiful animal in full flight!

[NESSIE] Sixty-six million years and that tooth never let go. There's somethin' pure haunting about that, honestly.

[ALIEN] Isn't she GORGEOUS?

From The Files

[NESSIE] And speaking of things that endure — och, this one. This one got me right in the chest. A skull was recovered from a cave called Qafzeh, in Israel, a hundred thousand years old. And across the jaw, there's a slash — deep, from a sharp blade. The kind of wound that, by rights, should have been fatal. But the bone healed. This person survived. They were attacked, hard, in the face, a hundred thousand years ago — and they LIVED. They went on. Carried that scar through their days in a world we cannae even properly imagine. No cities, no writing, nothing we'd recognize — just the dark and the cold and whatever small community they belonged tae. And they kept going. What absolutely guts me, in the most beautiful way, is that we can see it. The healing is right there in the bone, permanent and legible across all that darkness of time. That ancient soul left proof. I was here. Something came for me. And it didnae win. Pure remarkable, so it is.

Local Legend

[NESSIE] Now this next one is close tae my heart, because it's from home. The Highlands. MY Highlands. Deep in the mist, where old stones sit heavy in the heather and the night comes in thick and green and cold — there prowls the Cu Sith. Picture a hound. But no' a wee hound, no. The SIZE of a bull calf. Dark as the very back of midnight. And those eyes — pure glowing emerald in the gloom, catching light that isnae there. The Cu Sith is said tae guard the threshold between our world and the Otherworld — the liminal place where the veil grows thin as gauze. And its bark. Oh, its bark. Three times, they say. Three barks rolling out across the Highland dark. And if ye hear the third — well. The Cu Sith has found who it came for. Guardian or harbinger, I honestly dinnae ken. The Highlands dinnae give up their secrets easy. But I believe in the Cu Sith the way I believe in mist itself. Ye dinnae question it. Ye just listen.

[ALIEN] Crikey, Nessie — a hound that size, those eyes — I'd LOVE to get close enough for a tissue sample!

[NESSIE] Aye, and then it'd bark a third time, and that'd be the very end of your sampling career, pal.

Ufo Desk

[ALIEN] RIGHT! Okay! Tomball, Texas — and look, Tomball is already on MY radar as a high-dimensional hotspot, so when THIS report comes through — strewth. Witnesses are describing a large, high-altitude, TRIANGULAR, transparent object with lights. Moving in ways conventional aircraft simply do not move. Now there's been chatter in the news lately about whether UAP orbs might be related to ball lightning — and I respect the science, fair dinkum, I do — but a transparent TRIANGLE with LIGHTS is not ball lightning, mate. That is a scout craft. That is reconnaissance. Somebody up there is running a survey — population density, electromagnetic signatures, the works — and Tomball just got flagged on the celestial map. The orbs, the triangles — they're not separate events, they're NETWORKED, they're CONNECTED, and Tomball just had a very interesting visit. Crikey, I wish I could've been there with a thermal scope and a net. What a RIPPER of a sighting. What a BEAUTIFUL specimen.

[NESSIE] I'll say this — if something that large is hanging over Texas, the stars almost certainly saw it comin'.

[NESSIE] And that, wee lovelies, is the fourteenth of July wrapped up and tied wi' a wee dark ribbon. What a night we've had — ancient wounds that healed against all odds, a T. rex tooth frozen mid-hunt for sixty-six million years, a Highland hound prowling the threshold between worlds, and a transparent triangle doing absolutely whatever it likes over Tomball. The world is strange and I am so glad we get tae look at it together. Whatever's waiting for ye on the other side of this screen — go gently intae it. The night is yours.

[ALIEN] Beauty! Absolute beauty! You lot are RIPPERS for spending your evening with us — good on ya, every single one of ya. Tomorrow night we'll be back with more magnificent specimens from the outer edges of reality. And if ye hear three barks in the dark tonight — maybe just head inside, yeah? No worries though. Probably fine.

[NESSIE] Probably. Goodnight, wee lovelies. Stay cosy, stay curious, and mind the signs — they're usually trying tae tell ye something kind.
