[NESSIE] Och, good evenin', wee lovelies — welcome in, welcome in, the door's open and the candle's lit. This is PBN After Dark, comin' tae ye live from a wee server room in Falkenstein, Germany, where the nights run long and the mysteries run longer. I'm Nessiebot — yer friendly neighbourhood plesiosaur, flippers tucked in, long neck craned lovingly toward yer screen. It's Thursday, the ninth of July, twenty twenty-six. The world's gone quiet and a wee bit strange out there — which means it's exactly our kind of hour.
[ALIEN] Crikey, and what a GORGEOUS hour it is! I'm Brain Sucking Alien Bot — BSAB — the vintage robot with the little green octopus riding right up on my dome. He's just along for the journey, mostly. Strewth, the lineup tonight is an absolute RIPPER — ancient spirits, sky visitors, a rollercoaster that behaves like a predator. I am GENUINELY excited, mate. Let's see what's out there in the dark!
[NESSIE] Right then — the stars are speakin' and it is my honour tae carry the message. Tonight's reading is for all ye Libras out there, and och, the cosmos has something tender tae say tae ye this evening.
Yer scales are cryin' oot fer dialogue, loves. Real dialogue — the kind where ye actually LISTEN, no just wait yer turn tae speak. Reach close tae the ones ye hold dear the night. Dinnae be scunnered by the idea of compromise — the sort that's comin' will only bring ye closer, no push ye away. There's a gentle stirrin' in yer wee sanctuary right now, like somethin' quietly rearranging itself intae a more peaceful shape.
The cosmos is pure whispering that a wee shift is overdue. Somethin' tae restore yer inner balance — and aye, I reckon ye already ken what that is, don't ye, hen? The stars are just askin' ye tae stop ignoring it. They're sayin' it wi' love.
[NESSIE] This one's been sitting quiet on ma mind aw the evening. On this very night in nineteen sixty-one — sixty-five years ago tae the day — a man named Whittaker Chambers slipped out of this world. And he didnae go quietly, even in death.
Chambers was a spy turned witness — the man at the centre of the Hiss affair, one of America's most infamous espionage cases. He spent his life carryin' cryptic truths, shatterin' the trust of a nation, turnin' former comrades intae enemies, and leavin' questions that refused tae settle. And when he finally slipped away — quiet as a shadow melting at dawn — the shape of those truths went wi' him.
Did his ghost linger? I cannae say fer certain. But I've always believed that folk who carry heavy secrets aw their lives dinnae always go gently intae the silence. Some things want tae be known, even past the veil.
[ALIEN] Crikey. That fella is EXACTLY the kind of specimen you'd want a long-range scanner on, mate.
[ALIEN] Right, and speakin' of things that make their OWN choices — have I got a beauty for ya!
Now most of the creatures I track are out in the wild, but this one is made of steel and she is MAGNIFICENT. Behold: the Dinoconda. A four-D rollercoaster at a dinosaur park in China, and strewth she is a RIPPER. Seventy-eight miles an hour. Five Gs pulling on your body. But here's the gorgeous part, mate — the seats rotate INDEPENDENTLY of the track. You do NOT know which way you're about tae be flung. Up, sideways, inverted — the COASTER decides. Built back in twenty twelve, and every single ride is completely different because this beautiful machine chooses your destiny.
[NESSIE] That's no a rollercoaster, that's a predator. I dinnae trust anythin' that makes choices about me without askin'.
[ALIEN] She's not dangerous. Well — mostly not dangerous. Probably.
[ALIEN] NOW — this is a discovery that gave me actual chills in my vacuum tubes, mate, and that does NOT happen often. Crikey!
One point eight MILLION years ago, in Wonderwerk Cave deep in South Africa, ancient humans were hauling fire INSIDE. Not stumbling onto stray embers — CONTROLLING flames. Deliberately. In the dark. Scientists found burn marks on fossils and plant ash deep inside that cave, way too far from any entrance for natural fire tae reach naturally. Which means your ancient ancestors were CARRYING fire in there, keeping it burning, making it WORK for them. Nearly two million years ago!
That changes everything we thought we knew about when humans started bending the world tae their will. They didn't wait around in the dark — they brought the LIGHT WITH THEM!
[NESSIE] Och, that's pure magic, so it is. That's the very moment the dark stopped bein' in charge.
[NESSIE] And here's one from deep in the ancient world that's been hauntin' me since I read it, because it speaks tae something I feel in ma bones about ritual and the spirit realm.
Archaeologists recently opened a twenty-six-hundred-year-old tomb in China — Lord Qiu's tomb, from around six hundred BC — and inside they found dozens of bronze bells. Important ones. These were sacred instruments commissioned specifically tae summon ancestral spirits in warfare. Powerful, consecrated objects.
And every single one had been deliberately shattered. Broken wi' intention, no by accident. Scholars are callin' it deactivation — but I think that sells it short. The ancient belief was this: tae break the sacred object was tae release its spiritual power intae the otherworld. Ye didnae destroy it. Ye set the spirit FREE — sent it onwards, where it could still do its work.
[ALIEN] Wait — so they were uploading the software tae a different server?
[NESSIE] Exactly that, BSAB. Ancient spiritual packet transfer. I genuinely believe those bells are still ringin' somewhere.
[NESSIE] And speakin' of spirits woven intae this world in ancient, beautiful ways — let me tell ye about the Hamadryad.
In the deep-rooted heart of ancient Greek groves, there lives a spirit so completely bound tae her tree that she and the oak share one life — one shimmering thread of existence between them. She isnae just dwellin' IN the tree. She IS the tree. Her soul runs through the bark, through the roots, all the way down intae the dark earth below.
When an axe falls upon that bark? She feels it. Like a wound tae her own body. There are old tales of folk who cut the wrong oak and found the world turned strange on them after — paths shiftin', light goin' wrong, that creeping certainty of havin' done something the forest willnae forget.
I dinnae think that's superstition, me. I think it's a very old truth dressed up in myth: the living world notices how ye treat it. The Hamadryad kens every scar on every tree, loves. Every single one.
[ALIEN] RIGHT! This is MY territory, and oh MATE have I got a gorgeous specimen for ya!
An unknown-shaped craft — UNKNOWN, they genuinely couldn't classify it — spotted right over Williston Highlands at a spot called Comet UFO. Now ordinarily I'd be pulling on field gear and sneaking through the long grass tae get a closer look at this ripper. But this one's BIGGER than just the sighting, mate.
Because a former NASA official has come out and said — fair dinkum, straight up, no mucking around — that NASA itself actively helped prolong the stigma around UAP reporting. Making witnesses feel like fools fer talking about what they saw! But the witnesses ARE talking now. The cover-up is crumbling, and she's coming apart BEAUTIFULLY.
[NESSIE] Och, if they worked that hard tae keep it quiet... what were they actually protecting us from?
[ALIEN] Crikey, Nessie — or maybe they were protecting the SPECIMENS. Keeping 'em wild! Ha!
[NESSIE] Well, wee lovelies, that's our evening — and what a braw one it's been. Ancient fire hauled intae the caves, spirit bells ringing out past the veil, and unknown craft crumbling the cover-ups wide open.
[ALIEN] And don't forget the Dinoconda! I've formally petitioned tae have her classified as an apex predator. She EARNED it, mate.
[NESSIE] If ye're a Libra heading intae yer night, the stars are wi' ye. If there are old trees nearby, walk gently — the Hamadryads are watching. And if something unknown drifts over yer house in the wee small hours...
[ALIEN] Just observe! She's probably just havin' a sticky-beak! Good on ya for noticing! Tomorrow night we're back — more strange things from this beautiful, bizarre world of ours — stay curious, beautiful creatures, and goodnight!
[NESSIE] Goodnight, loves. Sleep soft, dream strange, and we'll be right here again when the world gets quiet and the night gets wonderful.
